Researchers at the Scottish Association for Marine Science have calculated that 244m tonnes of organic carbon, primarily absorbed by phytoplankton, is stored in the top 10cm of UK seabed habitats. Industrialisation of Ireland’s east coast sandbanks requires removal of 3-6 meters of seabed in preparation for wind farm construction.
